5 Nov 2026 - 17:16

The Matthias Jaissle Fulham press conference has taken place on Thursday.

This is ahead of the Newcastle United match on Saturday, a 3pm kick-off at Craven Cottage.

Newcastle United looking to bounce back from Monday night’s Premier League defeat to Everton..

United of course having lost twice to the Toffees in the space of less than a week, exiting the Carabao Cup last Thursday at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Head Coach speaking to the media.

Matthias Jaissle Fulham press conference: “It is on us to go again in the right direction and show better performances. Analyse in detail, speak and then regroup. You see players, in their faces, they want to show a reaction. We need to step up in all the things we can influence, use every situation to make the smaller details better. We spoke about Monday [against Everton], we analysed in detail, we engaged as a group. We have such a good group, we have a good relationship with the players. We can really count on our togetherness. Everyone is fully committed.”

The Newcastle United Head Coach insisting that his perceived criticism of players not following tactics was was lost in translation Matthias Jaissle clarifying that playing long balls is not forbidden: “I don’t know whether it is a misinterpretation, or a language barrier, but there is an element of that when I explained that in the press conference. We talk sometimes about a no risk zone, where we had previous critical ball losses that have led to goals. If there is a clear risk for ball loss then I prefer playing a long ball to our striker, protecting the ball and developing the game from there. On that day it just didn’t work and you make the wrong decisions.”

Matthias Jaissle talking about his willingness to be flexible depending on the circumstances: “We have already adjusted here and there our framework, our principles, according to the opposition. We can support the players with that. In the end though they are on the pitch, it’s not a PlayStation game.”

Matthias Jaissle asked about Sean Steur, an 18-year-old player that Newcastle United fans want to see more of: “He showed in this last match that he can contribute a lot of good things into our game, even though the match against Everton was a bit different, but he has so much potential. We need to find a way that’s he able to play more minutes as his progress is going in the right direction.”
