‘What are Newcastle United?’ BBC Sport pundit predicts misery to come
Interesting comments from this BBC Sport pundit on Newcastle United.
Chris Sutton speaking as United prepare to play their thirteenth match of the 2026-27 season.
Newcastle United up against Fulham in the Premier League.
A 3pm kick-off on Saturday afternoon.
Matthias Jaissle hoping to see his team bounce back from the consecutive defeats to Everton in the Carabao Cup and Premier League.
The BBC Sport pundit declaring ahead of this afternoon: “What are Newcastle United? What type of team are they? I am not sure and that’s why their manager, Matthias Jaissle, is getting a bit of stick from Magpies fans. That’s what is different with today’s Premier League compared to my playing days, because we see it all the time now – even a new manager comes under pressure if they have a couple of bad results. Newcastle have lost three of their past four league games and, in this day and age, that’s enough for people to say the wheels are coming off.”
Chris Sutton adding: “That’s why this game feels big for Jaissle. Win, and the Magpies head into the international break on a positive note. Lose it, however, and stand by for a lot of moaning and grumbling from their fans over the next couple of weeks. That’s what I think will happen, too.”
The BBC Sport pundit predicting more misery for Newcastle United, forecasting a 2-1 defeat at Craven Cottage: “Fulham’s results have picked up and so have their performances. They are at home here and I am expecting them to be too slick and too well organised for Newcastle.”
Once again a match where I think anything could happen.
Hopefully we see Newcastle United come out and play like they did in that second half the last time we played in London, when demolishing Crystal Palace in a dominant 20 minutes that immediately followed the break.
If United play today like they did in the opening half at Selhurst Park, this won’t end well.
