‘A step in the right direction…’ Matthias Jaissle speaks out after Fulham 1 Newcastle 1
Matthias Jaissle watched on as the match ended Fulham 1 Newcastle 1.
A stunning long range left foot effort from Jacob Murphy looked to have won it for United in the 80th minute.
Only for Fulham to swiftly equalise with the help of a couple of deflections, helping to get the ball to goalscorer Muniz and then his shot taking a tough off Burn to give Hornicek no chance.
Matthias Jaissle speaking to BBC Sport: “A step in the right direction after the last performance. That’s something we can really build on. I think there were occasions also to win that game. Of course, the disallowed goal, a soft one, I would say. I see it different then also a big chance at the end. Then you should go home with three points but one point and a performance is something we can work on.”
Matthias Jaissle on Jacob Murphy’s superb long range goal: “A brilliant goal and in general a great performance. Really solid defensively, he did his job, and offensive-wise, with such a goal, a great evening for him.”
Matthias Jaissle asked about the yellow card he got late on: “Not understandable really. I was shouting at my player that he should get up because if we can lose him for one minute at a decisive moment of the game, yeah, he should get up. Only when he is really injured can I understand it. The referee then gives me the yellow card. That’s strange.”
Mattias Jaissle on Dan Burn’s disallowed goal: “Do you think it’s a foul? In the Premier League? No.”
Matthias Jaissle on the international break: “It is now time to reflect and recharge also with a long season ahead of us, then pull out the things we need to improve and there are a couple of aspects. But today showed a clear direction in the right way so we can build on that.”
