‘For Newcastle United it was like a final’ Alvaro Arbeloa

7 Nov 2026 - 19:26

Alvaro Arbeloa watched on as Fulham went behind to a Jacob Murphy wonder strike with ten minutes of normal tie remaining.

Once the game restarted though, the home side swiftly equalising.

A smart finish from Muniz but helped by a deflection in the build up and then another when his shot beat Hornicek.

That giving Fulham a point, though Newcastle United had edged the game.

Alvaro Arbeloa speaking to BBC Sport: “You always want to win, especially at home. We knew how difficult it was going to be against Newcastle United and you could feel from the start that, for them, it was like a final. They were very, very aggressive. They are a very physical team, they were marking us man-to-man. I think we did a very good first half, we controlled the game, had very good chances but the second half was more open, chances for both teams.”

Alvaro Arbeloa on Jacob Murphy’s long range left foot stunner: “It is unbelievable because we concede another amazing goal from outside the box, with the left foot… it’s incredible. But we responded really, really well and could draw the game and have another good chance with Ryan Sessegnon. It’s another point, we wanted to win the game but it is what it is and we need to continue working hard.”
