Premier League possibilities open up for Newcastle United after Liverpool 0 Arsenal 1 ends weekend action

The Premier League weekend action ended with Liverpool 0 Arsenal 1.

An intriguing match at Anfield.

An excellent team move on 16 minutes saw Declan Rice set up Kai Havertz for what proved to be the only goal of the match.

Arsenal had started brightly but after taking the lead were happy to sit back and try and hit Liverpool on the break.

There was a lot effort and pressure from the scousers but they lacked the quality in the attacking third.

Alexander Isak poor up front and David Raya not a single shot to save, it was the first time in over 20 years that Liverpool had failed to have a shot on target in Premier League match at Anfield.

Liverpool 0 Arsenal 1 completed an intriguing weekend of Premier League performances and results ahead of Newcastle United v Everton on Monday night, the game that will finish off this ninth round of EPL matches.

These results open up interesting possibilities for Newcastle United in the Premier League table.

Saturday 31 October

Chelsea 2 Man U 0
Bournemouth 2 Leeds 0
Brentford 2 Forest 0
Coventry 3 Sunderland 1
Hull 2 Ipswich 2
Man City 0 Brighton 1
Spurs 2 Palace 0
Villa 1 Fulham 1

Sunday 1 November

Liverpool 0 Arsenal 1

Monday 2 November

Newcastle United v Everton (8pm)

Premier League table on Sunday 1 November 2026 after Liverpool 0 Arsenal 1

As you can see, if Newcastle United win against Everton they will go level on points with sixth place Brentford, two points ahead of eighth.

It would also mean United only a point off the top five and of course ahead of the likes of Villa, Tottenham and so on, seven points ahead of Man U and nine ahead of rock bottom Sunderland.

A strange start to the season but this is a Premier League where it feels so many teams can beat each other on any given day.

A win for Matthias Jaissle would then see them face Fulham away next weekend in the final round of matches before the international break.

It will be interesting to see how the Premier League table looks after that tenth round of EPL games…
