An 8pm kick-off on Monday night.
Matthias Jaissle hoping to see his team bounce back from the Carabao Cup defeat on Thursday night against…Everton.
The BBC Sport pundit declaring ahead of Monday: “Everton’s age-old problem is how Thierno Barry is going to perform because they rely so heavily on how well he is playing up front. To be fair to David Moyes’s side, they carried more of a threat than I expected in their defeat by Arsenal and I can see them getting chances here, because Newcastle are so open.”
Chris Sutton adding: “The Magpies will absolutely go for it again here and I have a sneaky feeling they will leave the door ajar for Everton to pinch the points.”
The BBC Sport pundit has predicted more misery for Newcastle United, forecasting a 2-1 away victory for Everton.
It was a strange match on Thursday night, as very much like the 4-1 defeat at Coventry, Newcastle United dominated all of the stats in a positive way, apart from when it came to goals. The stats at the end of the match read 28 v 11 in Newcastle’s favour on shots, 9 v 5 shots on target, 10 v 4 corners, 57% v 43% possession, as well as 37 v 17 when it came to touches of the ball in the opposition penalty area.
As at Coventry, the failure by Newcastle United on Thursday to convert so many good situations and chances into goals has cost them dear, allied with individual mistakes in defence.
I don’t rule out any outcome on Monday night but hopefully this will be the match when Newcastle United once again dominate the stats AND end up making them count in their favour.
