Brighton fans comments after draw at Newcastle United – Confused

Brighton fans watched on Saturday as their team took a point back home to the south coast.

With 71% possession the visitors certainly saw plenty of the ball.

However, should they have done more with it?

Reading the comments below from Brighton fans, the one thing you can be sure about is that they thought Newcastle United were really poor.

As for their own team, there is the odd dissenting voice but overall the feeling is that they played some very good football and deserved the three points.

Difficult to argue with any of that really!

Brighton fans comment via their North Stand Chat message board:

‘The mighty Geordies of Milburn, Beardsley, Waddle, Gazza, Keegan, Shearer …. resorting to long balls and crosses to the aged battering ram of Andy Carroll. Not great.’

‘If you can’t beat a side managed by Steve Bruce, it would seem to be points dropped. Even away from home.’

‘Newcastle were surely the worst team we’ve played in the Premier league so far. Apart from maybe WBA?’

‘I think Newcastle look a bottom 5 team so we missed a chance today.’

‘We played very well but lack of goal threat stopped us getting 3 points. Newcastle were awful to be fair. For this reason 2 points dropped.’

‘They wanted to come out of the traps and get the huge crowd behind them. They patently failed, due to our quality passing game with a threat.’

‘You could hear the surprise of Jamie Redknapp and Shola Ameobi after the game when talking about the way we played and dominated the game. JR said its the first game he’s see us play this season and he was well impressed, SA was also equally impressed with us and how we dominated his Toon team at SJP.’

‘Absolute garbage,we wont be staying up if we keep playing like that.’

‘A better side would’ve buried Newcastle tonight. We really lack a cutting edge.’

‘It was very disappointing but we thoroughly deserved to win.

We did have a goal disallowed and a goal denied by a tremendous goal-line clearance.

I was sitting at home watching it feeling immensely proud of and happy about the football we were playing. Entertaining is an inadequate word!’

‘The result was disappointing because we were the better team by a long long way. We have had good wins in the PL, but every one of them has felt like it was won against the odds.

Today’s dominance indicates that this is not a pipe dream. This was only our sixth Premier League game playing this way. I’ll admit that my fear was that the squad would struggle to make the necessary adaptation.

Today showed that we can dominate teams in this division. We won’t always get what our dominance might seem to deserve, but if we continue to play this way, we will begin to make teams think twice about whether they ‘should be beating teams like Brighton’.’

‘It was a great performance. We were by far the better team, and we are starting to believe. We just need to put these teams to the sword when we have such a massive advantage.’

‘Loving the way the play, but we dropped points to an extremely poor Newcastle side who will be down the bottom of the table with us.’

‘Out sung the Geordie massive too!

I’m immensely proud tonight.’

‘Newcastle were dire because Potter outsmarted Bruce. Albion didn’t win because they didn’t make the most of their chances and the goal line was a little thick.’

‘Got to be disappointed after not capitalising on such a dominant performance especially first half.’

‘I was there, as I was last season – we were FAR better. Sure, they were worse but we made them so.

I realise we’re not world beaters, but there is cause for reasonable positivity – sitting in Gosforth right now, we’ll i’m on cloud nine.’

‘I was there we rocked, you could hear a pin drop until 82 mins.

We were the best i’ve ever seen us play, at any level.’

‘Irrespective of the result, I just can’t believe how far we’ve come in such a short space of time. No longer boring no score draws – this was an example of what Potter is looking for. Unbelievable amount of possession, some exciting attacking play and less reliance on a centre back pairing with their backs to the wall. The goals will come.

Inspired use of the squad today. Happy days.’

‘We should have won and scored 3 or 4, we could have conceded a few too, however, going away to a ‘big’ club and drew playing like that, highly commendable, coming home with a clean sheet, a point and heads held high. A job well done.’

‘An away point in a game we dominated and the Potter regime only just getting going. Football certainly did do the talking.’

‘If at the start of the season we were offered a point at Newcastle i would have taken it so IMO its a good point. The fact that we should have got more ( as in 3 other games) is good news because the manager is still trying to bond the team and work out who are the best options. Lets face it we got 3 points last year but were extremely lucky.’
