Alan Pardew has admitted taking gambles this season with players coming back from injury.

Both Papiss Cisse and Rolando Aarons are rated as very doubtful for Sunday’s match at West Brom.

At his press conference, the Newcastle manager talked about the importance of both players to Newcastle United and their injury situations.

Papiss Cisse;

“We are monitoring Papiss at the moment with his knee. I don’t think he is particularly comfortable with it but he is training hard and he is training well.

“I think that is just something that we have to maintain as we go along. So if it is irritable before a game then we might not start him, or if it gets irritable during the game.

“But that process will end at some point and it is not something that is going to be ongoing.”

After bringing back Papiss Cisse as a very surprise sub against Hull, Pardew said;

“Fortunately the doctor was on a course this week so he didn’t get a say.

“He has worked hard Papiss but he’s had wastage on his muscle after the injury and it is not quite as strong as it perhaps should be.”

Pardew on Rolando Aarons;

“He has tremendous potential but he is a worry for Sunday because he has a little knock that we are concerned about.

“Which would be disappointing for us because his talent is there for all to see, the little cameos and roles that he has had.”

After the win at Manchester City, Pardew was asked the following, with his answer below;

(Question To Alan Pardew) Rolando had been out for a while and hadn’t played a reserve game or anything like that, was it a gamble to play him?

“Yes, I was advised not to but he did a little bit yesterday in training that I thought warranted him forty five minutes.”

By playing these players against the expert advice, has it aggravated the two players’ injuries?

We will never know, but what is for sure, is that you have to question why the club employs people to give expert advice on injuries, only for it to be ignored.
