Newcastle United admit they have to be careful with Papiss Cisse until summer

Papiss Cisse is in great form this season….when he is on the pitch!

Alan Pardew reckons that the Senegal striker has scored his seven goals from only ten chances, with the Newcastle striker used sparingly so far.

In fact Cisse has scored an incredible goal every 66 minutes in the Premier League this season, making him by far the most prolific forward, when it comes to comparing goals with minutes on the pitch.

However, in the lead up to tomorrow’s match, Alan Pardew has made clear that Papiss Cisse’s ongoing knee problems may mean that we won’t see the striker getting a run of games any time this season, the best we can hope for is potentially a mixture of starts and substitute appearance.

Alan Pardew;

“He (Papiss Cisse) has had to come on late in some games and he has scored goals, that’s pushed his goals (per minute) ratio up.

“He’s a goalscorer and he’ll score all sorts of goals; off the back of his head, off his knee like he did at Burnley.

“He’s just one of those people but at the moment he’s red hot and hopefully if we can get him some chances, we feel confident that he’ll take them.”

Ongoing problems;

“It’s an ongoing process with Papiss and that knee – just to make sure that he is ok.

“I think by the time we get to the summer it will be all over – but from now until the summer we’ll have to be careful with him.”

With the manager admitting the problems with Cisse’s ability to play, it would be unbelievable if Newcastle don’t buy at least one first team striker in January.
