Cheick Tiote confirmed as missing for up to 6 weeks
Cheick Tiote has been confirmed as missing for up to six weeks in the new year.
The Newcastle midfielder confirmed today in the Ivory Coast squad to compete in the African Cup of Nations finals in Equatorial Guinea.
The tournament runs from January 17 to February 8 but the Ivory Coast squad meet up for training in Abu Dhabi, to start January 5, with a warm up game scheduled for January 11 against Nigeria.
The United player has had a poor season so far with injuries, generally poor perfromances and negative off the pitch headlines, but actually had a decent game as Newcastle overcame Everton.
It looks as though Tiote will be ok for the Burnley match on New Year’s day but is likely to miss as from the Leicester FA Cup third round date on January 3 – past tournaments have seen the African combatants miss that cup date.
Cheick Tiote and his teammates will play the following group matches;
January 20 Guinea
January 24 Mali
January 28 Cameroon
Both Papiss Cisse and Mehdi Abeid have already been included in the Senegal and Algeria squads respectively, with injury due to keep Abeid out of all Newcastle matches before the African Nations Cup starts.
While on the other hand Papiss Cisse appears to have ruled himself out as he has been charged with violent conduct following an incident with Seamus Coleman of Everton.
