Alan Pardew admits playing Rolando Aarons against advice not to

Alan Pardew has admitted that he played Rolando Aarons at Manchester City despite being advised not to.

The Newcastle manager ignoring medical advice, as he did with Papiss Cisse earlier in the season, and seemingly getting away with it both times.

Many words have been used to describe the United boss but ‘lucky’ is something that seems to come along just when he needs it the most, maybe it isn’t just Mike Ashley smiling down on him.

The old saying about the victors writing history is certainly true in football as much as anywhere.

After the match, there were two interviews on the club’s own official TV channel, one with the manager and one with Aarons.

Amusingly Alan Pardew claims the Aarons move as part of a carefully thought out strategy, with intention to play only the first half etc etc.

Of course you can do this when you end up winning, the player scores the vital opening goal and doesn’t break down.

However, the interview with Rolando Aarons sees the player admit there was no plan as to how long he would play and he admits he was way off the pace and clearly not ready to play.

When it comes to attributes you want to see in a manager then luck is a very desirable one and Alan Pardew certainly seems to be carrying it at the moment.

(Question To Alan Pardew) Rolando had been out for a while and hadn’t played a reserve game or anything like that, was it a gamble to play him?

“Yes, I was advised not to but he did a little bit yesterday in training that I thought warranted him forty five minutes.

“We never planned to play him longer than that but for forty five minutes he showed the quality he has got.”

(Question To Rolando Aarons) You came off at half-time, was that always the plan?

“No, I was just knackered.

“I was tired and I think the gaffer noticed, and I kind of told him, so he took me off.

“I was knackered today and I was a bit slow and off the pace but obviously happy to get the goal and contribute.”
