Only 6 of 22 Manchester United v Newcastle United last season survivors
While many will be expecting a different game and result from this week’s Manchester United v Newcastle United compared to last season, it will quite literally be a different game with totally different line-ups.
Manchester United are almost certain to have only four of the eleven who started last season.
While with Newcastle United it is even more dramatic, with probably only two who started last December.
The two line-ups for that for 1-0 Newcastle win were;
Manchester United: De Gea, Rafael, Jones, Vidic, Evans, Evra, Janujaz, Cleverley, Hernandez, Nani, Van Persie
Newcastle United: Krul, Debuchy, Coloccini, Williamson, Santon, Tiote, Cabaye, Anita, Gouffram, Sissoko, Remy
A major overhaul at Old Trafford has seen Vidic, Cleverley, Nani, Hernandez head out of the club while others such as Janujaz aren’t first team starters now. In their draw at Villa only De Gea, Evans, Jones and Van Persie were playing from last season’s starting 11.
It is even more dramatic with Newcastle, losing arguably the three best players in Cabaye, Remy and Debuchy, while Santon and Krul are injured and Tiote suspended. Williamson and Anita are no longer first choice, while surely even Gouffran can’t have survived his latest anonymous display against Sunderland.
That would leave Sissoko and Coloccini as survivors of that 1-0 win.
Alan Pardew earlier today called for Newcastle to repeat last season’s successful ‘structure’, if they are going to do it then it will be with a vastly different team within that structure.
