If I had to guess I would say Santon’s agent is looking to bump up the player’s contract in a bit of a crass way, though of course no doubt a transfer (for his agent) would be a bonus if it happened. I think Davide has to tell his agent to button it, or look for an alternative agent.
Though unlucky with injuries, when fit the French winger/striker/midfielder has been outstanding and undoubtedly his value has increased over the course of his contract, so an improved contract offer would appear on the cards.
Last summer I would like to think United would have had a great chance of landing such an up and coming talent having just finished fifth in the Premier League. I can only think though that the current speculation is being given oxygen by journalists close to the club.
Colo’s Agent; “He has only just renewed his contract six months ago and these stories always generate a buzz and generate illusions, however they are just that, illusions and nothing more. These things that are written, I just cannot believe”.
It is easy to forget but just twelve months ago it was reported as a done deal that Sochaux’s Modibo Maiga was moving to St.James’ Park, only for the deal to mysteriously collapse at the last second with vague claims of a problem with his medical.
Papiss Cisse; “I adapted well to playing with Demba Ba when I signed last season and he is a vital payer for Newcastle. I hear the decisions from the directors at the club but personally, I don’t think this is good news for us”.
If Wenger was honestly trying to put an end to any transfer rumour then he has failed miserably. If he wanted to hint that he’s keeping his gob shut for the minute and it is very likely he’s going after Ba in January…then it was a resounding success.
The fly in the ointment is that Ba has been a resounding success. If he’d been rubbish we wouldn’t be having this conversation but as a success, Ba is clearly worth more than he was those eighteen months ago.
