The bare minimum punishment must surely be a seven match ban but with his number of offences growing I think there is surely an overwhelming case for something far longer. Plus of course it should be a no-brainer that Sarez must wear a muzzle whenever he steps onto a football pitch again.

As for the FA, you should be utterly ashamed at your performance in this matter. It is really simple sometimes – it’s just a question of doing what is right – that is justice.

While of course we have had instances in the past such as Jamie Carragher throwing coins back into the crowd and he wasn’t even charged with misconduct by the FA. Fans (quite rightly) can be banned for life but what about the players?

The only thing I disagree with Shearer about is the one match ban. I would kick Ashley Cole out of the England squad for good, the same as with John Terry if he hadn’t jumped first.

What this means is that if Newcastle finish in sixth (or higher!) they will DEFINITELY be in Europe next season.
