Di Canio’s call up could be just as well if he fancies visiting St.James’ Park this season, as after loading up his trolley on a supermarket sweep around Europe he appears to have only succeeded in getting rid of his two best players (Mignolet and Sessegnon) and buying a job lot of seriously average players.

The bar named after him may be disappearing from St.James’ Park but Alan Shearer could soon be back in person on the pitch where he score so many of his record breaking 206 goals for Newcastle United.
