Krul played a total of 31 matches, with 24 league appearances and 7 in Europe. Though he didn’t quite hit the heights of the previous season, little surprise given his injuries, Krul is a worthy winner in a year when contenders were a little thin on the ground.
As you go through the squad list, the names are quickly chalked off, until there are only a handful of players left. A shortlist of the ‘best of the worst’, if you will. For me that shortlist looks a little bit like this: Demba Ba, Papiss Cisse, Davide Santon, James Perch, Steven Taylor and Sylvain Marveaux.
Maybe if Cisse hadn’t arrived that could possibly have allowed Demba Ba to add another half dozen goals and be in contention but surely we are all just focused on the massive prize of Champions League football.
