The Newcastle youth team attracted biggest crowd in over 50 years but they couldn’t quite lift them into the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup.

Newcastle United were the only English team in this year’s Torneo Di Viareggio and now they have bowed out of the tournament in the Lucca region of Italy. This is despite winning their final group match against Empoli which left them with two wins out of three.

Newcastle’s under 17s have gone two better on Monday as they slammed Italian side Pachuca 6-0 in their latest Milk Cup match in Northern Ireland, following up Saturday’s 4-0 winners over County Fermanagh.

Just in case you thought this tournament was a walkover for teams representing Premier League clubs, County Tyrone beat Manchester United 2-0 and County Armagh held Tottenham to a draw.

At St.James’ Park tonight, United’s under 18 side managed to reach the 6th round of the FA Youth Cup despite falling behind to a first half goal from the visitors.

A late equaliser by Campbell and a Hooper winner in extra time sent the kids through.
