The Italian made his reputation as an attacking full-back/wing-back at Inter on the left and while I don’t think it is a weakness for the team if Santon plays right-back, it is a bit like playing Sissoko and saying he can’t go over the halfway line!
We always knew that the home matches with Wigan and QPR had to be home bankers because the other six matches coming up are against Manchesters City and United, Arsenal, Everton and difficult away matches at Fulham and Norwich, where we were stuffed by both last season.
Both Anita and Marveaux are on the plane which left for France and Anita does look to be finding his feet in recent matches, it would be great to see him add another decent performance to keep the upward momentum going.
We were far from perfect but it was a damn sight better than kicking the ball long, bypassing midfield altogether, into the two strikers. This way of playing is rigid, lazy and has no place with the type of players we have.
Fingers crossed that the players who left the pitch can shake off their aches and strains, especially in the case of Demba Ba who for the first time in however long looked to have some kind of a productive partnership with Cisse.
Anita to Ba and a through ball to Cisse who is barged off the ball by Figueroa. It looks a penalty but you don’t assume anything this season, however the referee is pointing to the spot AND brandishing a red card.
