A remarkable turn of events, Newcastle United’s Sammy Ameobi reported to be in discussions with the club and on the verge of signing a new 3 year contract.

Newcastle United are to offer a new and improved contract to Moussa Sissoko according to reports today, in order to ward off interest from potential bidders.

Reported over the weekend that Shola Ameobi has allegedly turned down a new Newcastle United contract – are you disappointed or relieved?

Unbelievably, a new Shola Ameobi contract looks on the cards as both the player himself and senior club officials are reported to be planning talks.

Steven Taylor is currently fourth choice but his agent has made public a Joe Kinnear contract promise and the possibility of Taylor going on loan.

Amusingly (not for us), just who was this madman who would happily let Shay Given go for a paltry £6m and then give Shola an extended contract.

Well that would be another horrific three words; Joseph F Kinnear. Be warned as to what is coming next.

While funds will be available in the summer I think serious money will need to be spent elsewhere, especially for another striker, so it would make sense to try and save a bit of money elsewhere in the squad.

If true, it would amount to a big departure from Mike Ashley as previous reporting suggested he wouldn’t go beyond £50,000 a week, an increase of £10,000 on Ba’s current £40,000.

My nightmare scenario is that Newcastle sell Tiote and Guthrie is promoted to first choice by default.

That would be a big backward step for Newcastle United but watch this space.
