Newcastle United are now being linked with a player they missed out on in January (Bastia confirmed at the time that Newcastle had offered 3m Euros), 20 year old winger Florian Thauvin is now allegedly the subject of numerous bids from Marseille, the latest being £7.5m, and French media sources are claiming Lille would take £13m.

The age of the player and the money talked about would be a major commitment if Newcastle did pursue the player. However, just so long as Newcastle stay in the Premier League the extra broadcasting riches will need to be made available if the team/squad are going to move forward.

A sixth transfer deal of this January transfer window has been stopped in its tracks, ironically by Yohan Cabaye’s old club Lille.

“A dog, a real dog leaves us after 19 years at the club….. to join his accomplice Yohan Cabaye” (MD is nicknamed ‘The Dog’ due to his combative nature on the pitch).
“MD is a 100% Lillois (equivalent to us as Geordie)”.

Debuchy; “No one at Lille has told me ‘you have to leave in January because we (Lille) have money trouble’, but if an offer comes along and it would satisfy everyone…I have not changed my mind in six months about Newcastle and England”.

With Lille’s league position and being out of Europe, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the French club also happy to deal on the player now, with maybe even some compromise on the asking price which could satisfy Mike Ashley’s need for a hard bargain.

Debuchy; “I don’t want to talk about my future. I heard what the chairman said. The transfer window is open until September 4th in France. I still want to go. We will see”.

The fact that the Lille Coach is continuing to comment suggests everything isn’t sorted and then to be warning Debuchy that he has to play well or else he’ll be risking his international place….

“Mathieu [Debuchy] is one of the best full-backs in France, if not Europe…He was hoping to leave…this is one of the oddities of the transfer season”.

Michel Seydoux (Lille Chairman) “I decided that Mathieu Debuchy will remain at LOSC. The offer from Newcastle is definitely not at the value of the player”.
