The 24 year old is currently on a five year contract which runs out in June 2015 but the Swiss club are claimed to be keen to sell Sommer this January as he has refused to sign an extension.
This is a major increase from the £2million claimed to be quoted to United during the summer transfer window; the reason for this inflation is the Dutch youngster’s rise to prominence in the PSV set-up.
We still await Newcastle’s first signing but the reports coming out of Holland claim that Newcastle United will make a renewed effort to land PSV’s Jeroen Zoet.
It was widely reported that United had made a big of around £2m for Jeroen Zoet a couple of weeks ago but this was knocked back.
So he might fit well in the Newcastle side because that suggests he is good at stopping goals – with just 49 goals from 34 games, his 1.44 goals conceded per game puts him alongside other quality keepers for the 2011-12 season. With fewer games, he kept to 1.37 goals in 2012-13 as well.
However, it is now reported that PSV have turned down a bid for Zoet, which they say was £1.7m, and in fact PSV are looking to tie the keeper down on a new deal.
However, it would appear very unrealistic that Graham Carr hasn’t had major input into this deal and Tim Krul’s opinion sought at the very least, plus you would hope/assume it has at least been passed by Alan Pardew.
