Back in January we carried a piece about alleged interest in Ajax’s Belgian centre-back, Jan Vertonghen.
Rumours persist that he is interested in a move to England but will where we finish in league decide how likely we are to attract him and others?
Alan Pardew on Mike Ashley, “Put yourself in his position and look at the value he has had for his money. Some of the signings for this club, some of the faith he has put in people and has not been repaid. That would make you wary as well”.
One player who could potentially be on Newcastle’s radar is Belgian centre-back/midfielder Jan Vertonghen who is captain of Ajax.
Only 24 (resale value!), he has 35 international caps, scores goals and looks a canny player, plus he has only 18 months to run on his contract (money off!).
The club appear not to have directly replaced Dennis Wise but Chief Scout, Graham Carr, certainly seems to have a more pivotal role than that title would imply at other Premier League clubs.
Positive reports abound out of St.James’ Park when it comes to Carr’s role and the captures of Cabaye and Tiote are his headline news.
As Darren Bent insists on his say, I can’t forget that Fried Chicken shop incident we shared
‘With a heavy heart it is now time to drop Karl Darlow and bring back Martin Dubravka’
