Debuchy made three tackles, the most for any Newcastle player, got 63 touches of the ball, the second most, and managed to not give a single foul away when faced with one of the best wingers in the league. He showed determination, strength in the tackle and composure, expertly dealing with at least one ball over the top.
Older fans would to an extent compare him to Supermac who also was that kind of instinctive striker who shot on sight, Cisse isn’t going to do a Beardsley and weave his way past four or five defenders before cheekily outwitting the keeper.
One thing that would make a huge difference would be if the time in which the midfield needs to join the attack is reduced; 9-10 seconds to offer the forward/s support is ridiculous; tactics or laziness I don’t know, but it must change.
I know it irked some that Tiote and Gutierrez seemed almost “undroppable” last season but I do think they’re both useful players. I think Gutierrez struggled because he was played in about five different positions – at least two of them that in my opinion he hasn’t got the tools to play to Premier League level (central midfield and left-back).
