Political football hits the back of the net in Newcastle – pre-match public meeting on Saturday organised by NUST with MPs and prominent football figures.
With the likes of Sunderland putting their name to the campaign, is it about time Newcastle United put their name to it and help bring a better atmosphere to St.James’ Park?
On the weekend that many Manchester City fans refused to pay the £62 to visit Arsenal, Newcastle fans were being charged £45 for Norwich (plus of course the disgraceful £1 a ticket surcharge that NUFC charge their own fans to buy an away ticket).
“There is a mood change within police match commanders and I would like to think my chief constable would not oppose a move to safe standing. The idea that if people are put in a standing area they will behave criminally is totally wrong”.
So tickets are cheaper, the atmosphere is better and the club increases revenue. What’s not to love? Most significantly of all, the clubs will be giving the ‘customers’ what they want – choice.
