Newcastle United are now being linked with a player they missed out on in January (Bastia confirmed at the time that Newcastle had offered 3m Euros), 20 year old winger Florian Thauvin is now allegedly the subject of numerous bids from Marseille, the latest being £7.5m, and French media sources are claiming Lille would take £13m.
It is certainly hard to see a French club (unless it was cash rich PSG) offering more money than English clubs, so you can only judge that he thinks he will get more matches and develop into a better player by staying at home a bit longer – rather than coming now to England on a lucrative four or five year deal which could financially make him.
Coveted by Lille, Newcastle and Arsenal, Florian Thauvin will remain in Corsica until the end of the season. “Florian Thauvin was currently the subject of one concrete offer of 3 million euros from the English club Newcastle which was rejected,” said Pierre-Marie Geronimi, president of Bastia.
“The club has received an offer for Florian (Thauvin) and it is from Newcastle who have made an offer of 3m Euros – with the player then loaned back to Bastia until June and 15% of any profit on a future transfer. We are currently considering this proposal and we will decide quickly”.
