A bit of patronising patter – how it is ‘nice for our (simple) fans to hear names’. Spelling out how desperate the situation is – ‘We do need two strikers…last year I didn’t think there was enough competition’.
I’ve got a feeling that Mike Ashley has got his ‘You blink first’ tough dealing hat back on and if there is real interest from Newcastle then I can see our owner well prepared to risk losing out on the deal in the hope of knocking Villa down further.
The message I get from this is that ‘success’ in the transfer window is being claimed to be keeping hold of your current decent players and look to add a decent striker. Newcastle United are in grave danger of being left behind and imploding, I don’t think I want to be around when either or both things happen.
Talk of Graham Carr and Alan Pardew leaving has gone, we can now focus on the future, bringing in some new players. Although our squad I reckon on paper is top 8 quality, we still need around three top quality players; a striker, a winger and a centre back.
The third position is surely what Newcastle should be striving for; adding somebody such as Bent to Cisse & Gouffran, PLUS adding a striker who would automatically be seen as our number one striker or at the very least on a par with Papiss Cisse. Only that would reassure me that Mike Ashley has any intention of not repeating last summer’s disastrous transfer trading.
Two questions – which of the 2 strikers would you take to Newcastle (or both?) and which was the biggest transfer disaster of the January 2011 transfer window….we’ll leave Fernando Torres for another day!
