What I am saying is that it might be a good idea to test Santon out on the left wing for the few games remaining in pre-season, going forward is his strongest point and from the one or two he has put in he’s arguably our best crosser of the ball. Remember Bale started out as a left back and moved forward for similar reasons.
Like me, I bet you have little doubt that now this change in stance is coming about, we all know which Premier League club will be the first to have a player brought to book thanks to the new ruling, instead of getting away with it like Wigan and McManaman.
It still sticks in the throat that Callum Mcmanaman got away with no punishment whatsoever for his assault on Massadio Haidara. Not only that, but I can still hear Dave Whelan’s voice in my head saying Mcmanaman hadn’t done anything wrong and was a great lad blah blah blah.
Last night gave me a sense of ironic and poetic justice, to see Wigan comically throwing the game away while their smug chairman Dave Whelan looks on trying desperately to keep a smile on his face, it must have been pure torture.
One thing I do hope is that Pardew really does go for it and ditches the timid approach that has led to one goal in the past three games. When Wigan scored their winning goal at WBA (McManaman again) they had five players in the opposition penalty area….we normally struggle to have one there!!!
Our final away match and we face ‘Arry Redknapp. If it could get any worse then how about if Loic Remy scores the goal that decides our fate? The striker who went to relegation certainties rather than Tyneside. It gets even worse because in only a few months Remy has ended up as QPR’s joint top scorer with five goals and if he’d signed for us I can’t help but think he’d have ensured we would stayed up.
Newcastle United, the media, sponsors, players and fans of the Beautiful Game should demand, and not rest until they receive, an unequivocal yes or no answer to the question: did any FA match official see the incident, did any FA match official see McManaman’s studs being embedded into Haidara’s leg above the knee?
