It had been seven months since Adam Campbell last netted a competitive goal for Newcastle United’s reserve team, but he was finally on the score-sheet again; netting the equaliser as United drew 1-1 with Bolton at Whitley Park.
A bit of patronising patter – how it is ‘nice for our (simple) fans to hear names’. Spelling out how desperate the situation is – ‘We do need two strikers…last year I didn’t think there was enough competition’.
More bizarrely though is a number of fans dismissing Cisse’s possible absence with comments along the lines of ‘so what, Cisse’s missed loads of chances and we’ve got Adam Campbell and Shola who can play there’.
Just like earlier in the season when he was trying to blindly convince people that Obertan was flying in training, or that Williamson was as good as the other centre-backs, or that certain other players were capable of doing the job of our missing top players…I think Pardew is falling into the same trap.
Fans will get a rare chance this Friday to see Newcastle United’s young talent make an appearance at St.James’ Park. United’s U21 reserves take on Crystal Palace at 7pm this Friday (19th April) and as an added bonus, all season ticket holders and members don’t pay for these matches.
