The groans when Ben Arfa was taken off with twenty minutes to go said it all, fans understood that it was because he was just back from injury but they also knew his departure took away the best chance of Newcastle getting something out of this match.
The home side are out of form and will be nervous in front of their own fans, it could well be down to whether Newcastle are up to the job – two weeks ago I would have been dubious but if United go out on the front foot I can see an NUFC win.
The chances of Mike Ashley paying out to rent a 33 year old player who will not be a (financial) asset, with no possibility of increasing in value in the longer term…well it just isn’t going to happen.
