I can’t remember there ever being a match where I couldn’t say who I wanted to win. Naturally when I say ‘who I want to win’, I really mean in 99% of cases who I least want to get beat. Take this weekend’s FA Cup ties….
United went 2 down to their local rivals only for Dennis Knight to pull one back from the penalty spot. Things looked bleak when Knight was given his marching orders with 20 minutes left, only for Lewis Gibbons to grab an unlikely equaliser for ten man Newcastle.
Alan Pardew; “We’ll be ready to go again next week – we’ve got 13 cup finals between now and the end of the season.
I’ve given the players the weekend off. They’ll rest and do what they’ve got to do, and Papiss Cissé will be able to bring a few more clothes to Newcastle!”
