Newcastle Go Through In Capital One Cup But Still Haven’t Scored A Goal

Newcastle United progress into the heady heights of round three of the Capital One Cup, despite still nobody in black and white having scored a goal so far this season.

Former Sunderland youngster John Egan turned in Gabriel Obertan’s cross in the 23rd minute to put Newcastle through.

This makes it four and a half hours of football this season without a United player able to find the net.

Alan Pardew made six changes with Mike Williamson suspended and Steven Taylor, Haidara, Abeid, Obertan, De Jong and Aarons coming in for Williamson, Dummett, Anita, Gouffran, Cabella and Colback.

An end to end open game with both sides having their moments, including Massadio Haidara hitting the woodwork.

As with all Cup competitions, all that is important is being in the hat.

Wednesday night we will find out who will provide the opposition in the third round, then await with interest just what team Alan Pardew puts out.

Newcastle United: Krul, Janmaat, Steven Taylor, Coloccini, Haidara, Abeid, Sissoko, Obertan, De Jong (Perez 67), Aarons (Cabella 60), Riviere (Gouffran 85)

Unused Subs: Elliot, Anita, Dummett, Ferreyra
