The only question for me is whether this was even better than the January demolition of Manchester United? I would argue it was because how many times have we let ourselves down after the big build up.
This must rank as the best away performance in terms of outplaying the opposition, certainly since the Stoke match. The front three of Papiss Cissé, Demba Ba and Hatem Ben Arfa gave us a wonderful glimpse of what the future holds if we keep them together.
A great shift put in with the exception of Obertan who was abysmal. Arsenal had possession and the majority of chances but Newcastle didn’t deserve that cruel last gasp goal. Pardew can take heart from a spirited performance and Ben Arfa deserves a run on the the right.
For me Santon was easily our best player today and in the harsh light of a defeat ( for that is what it feels like) you have to look at whether Simpson & Ryan Taylor are in the same league as Jonas & Santon, I think the answer you are looking for is NO!
