Looking at this Newcastle United team v Everton.

Matthias Jaissle and his players looking to build on Sunday’s Premier League victory at Selhurst Park.

That 2-0 win against Crystal Palace seeing United bounce back from consecutive league defeats to Coventry and Villa.

Tonight is also of course a chance to reach the last eight of the Carabao Cup.

Matthias Jaissle and his Newcastle United players knowing that defeating Everton would mean only League Two Fleetwood Town would stand between NUFC and a fourth semi-final appearance in this competition in five seasons.

As a reminder, this was the Newcastle United team v Crystal Palace:

Hornicek, Dedic, Schar, Burn, Hall, Gonzalez, Willock, Joelinton, Barnes, Murphy, Osula

At his pre-match press conference, Matthias Jaissle gave us a bit of an update on injuries/fitness.

The Head Coach confirming that as well as Ewen Jaouen, Tino Livramento also remains unavailable.

Matthias Jaissle revealed as well that Matias Fernandez-Pardo and Lewis Miley are doubts for tonight’s matchday squad after they missed the Palace match.

This is my predicted Newcastle United team v Everton:

Hornicek, Dedic, Schar, Burn, Hall, Gonzalez, Willock, Joelinton, Barnes, Murphy, Osula

It may look a little familiar and this is because it would mean the same starting eleven as Sunday, if I am proved correct.

Matthias Jaissle made five changes on Sunday and produced a winning team, I think that especially after the second half performance at Selhurst Park he may well wonder why change that winning formula?

Only one game but it was a first Premier League clean sheet since Spurs away and after a difficult opening half when the gusting wind appeared to make things difficult, NUFC looked a real attacking threat after the break.

Obviously we don’t know the physical condition of players but with having four days recovery, I would be very surprised if Matthias Jaissle changes the defence in any way.

Whilst with the midfield and attack, possibly look to same again as well, keep it tight in the first half as at Palace and then be more expansive as the game goes on.

Matthias Jaissle had also made clear that the likes of Ramsey and Elanga weren’t physically ready to be considered as starters against Palace, so maybe only the bench again would be considered for this pair, with Monday night a more realistic target for possible starting eleven returns.

The big positive as well is that just as on Sunday, the Head Coach hopefully getting back to now having a far stronger bench, options to come on and change things and/or help see a winning position maintained.
