Nottingham Forest fans comments before AND after losing to Newcastle United – Interesting…amusing
Nottingham Forest fans watching Premier League football once again, ‘only’ 23 years in the waiting.
Steve Cooper coming in last September (2021) and doing a remarkable job, taking them up via the play-offs.
The schedule threw up St James’ Park as the venue for their reintroduction to the top tier, interesting to see what the Nottingham Forest fans had to say before AND after Saturday’s defeat…
Nottingham Forest fans commenting via their LTLF message board:
‘Win 0-3 and we take the Premier League by storm.’
‘They don’t seem to have done much transfer business so far over the summer, which is a bit surprising given their resources and how close to relegation they were six months ago.
I’m going with 1-1, Forest with an early goal.’
‘We still owe those Geordie b*****ds for 1974.’
‘This ten times over.’
To add insult to injury Forest were absolutely robbed in the replay.
Cooper needs to hang a picture of Dave Serella on the dressing room door on Saturday’
‘2-1. Newcastle early on, Johnson midway through second half then Lingard clinches it in the last few minutes.’
‘Lingard with the winner then TalkSport spend a week talking about how he shouldn’t do a dance as a celebration.’
‘Newcastle still aren’t a good side and we’ll batter them but only score with a soft goal.’
‘Barcodes are in for a shock. 3-1 Forest.’
‘It’ll be an open game, and as we’re a unknown quantity to our own supporters let alone Newcastle I’m going for a 1 nil to Forest. I think people will be surprised how high Forest are going to play up the pitch.’
‘We may have lost. We may have been outclassed.
But we didn’t murder any journalists or terrorise the lgbt+ community so I think morally we take this one.’
‘Newcastle were what you would expect, given their spending and how long they’ve played together.’
‘Since I’ve supported Forest, we’ve had a few decent seasons and then 30 years of being bang average. In that time only Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City and now Liverpool have been consistently good. Blackburn and Leicester also did wonders once each. So no other club has any right to profess to be better than another.
Newcastle have and still are a complete irrelevance until they do something to suggest otherwise. One swallow does not make a summer etc.’
‘Isn’t it funny, how an influx of blood-money from a despotic regime suddenly turns some „supporters“ into arrogant braggarts?
It wasn’t that long ago that Newcastle were consistently scrapping against relegation, even falling into the Championship, and at times in the top flight, looking like they couldn‘t beat a one-legged men in an a.se-kicking contest?
For all the money in the world, Newcastle have achieved nothing yet.
Maybe some of their fanbase should remember that.’
‘It’s all a massive learning curve and new territory. It will take a few games but Cooper is wise and not at all arrogant or ignorant so he will find a way.
In Cooper, we trust.’
‘Safe to say that didn’t go as I dreamt it. Stark reminder of the chasm between Championship & premier league football, performances like that will see us beaten 9 times out 10, luckily we have a manager who’s quick to acknowledge it.
“When we’re bad we’re really bad” was evident again Saturday, nothing came out with any quality, whilst some of O’Briens work looked snappy, he & Colback looked totally overrun for the large part.’
‘Not overly disappointed. Newcastle are a good team with some classy players, and we know we can be better than we played today too. They brought 25m and 35m pound players on off the bench.
Work to do but no need to panic (yet!).’
‘They have won 7 of the last 8 at home (the 1 loss was against Liverpool)
Infact they only lost 2 at home since Howe has been there & that was against Man City & Liverpool
Every game may seem scary now but they are an excellent side.’
‘Newcastle will be top four this season. I don’t think we could have had a harder first match back. Wait till next week before panicking.’
‘Good to get that 1st match out of the way. Could have been a cricket score.’
‘Took a bit of a pasting there… I don’t think it’s a case of Toffolo or Johnson or whoever not being good enough, we were collectively outclassed all over the pitch. This isn’t a criticism of any individual or the team at large. Newcastle are just better than us.’
‘With all the good pressing and possession that Newcastle had, they were poor in the final 3rd, a real good team would have scored 4 or 5 past us.’
‘Newcastle were the premier league form team back end of last season and played a settled side today.
Lost in the end to a wonder strike and a goal from a top striker.’
‘To the absolute weapon that’s just sent all those half-empty cups of drink flying everywhere off the tables in the concourse (and the morons filming it), you’re a disgrace – absolutely embarrassing after the hospitable welcome we’ve received today!’
‘Newcastle are a mid table team and it was like a training match for them. We need to learn from this, I think the intensity surprised us, but we will adapt over the games but the first month will be rough.’
‘Newcastle played a back 4 and had more men in midfield and up front than we did and they overran us. The 5 at the back didn’t work for us today.
It’s a great learning curve for Cooper and his staff. Having said that, I can’t stress again how impressive Newcastle have been under Howe at home. No team in the league will have an easy game there.’
‘Newcastle will finish top 8, still, we have to improve massively both on and off the ball.
We gifted em the goals too even if they were both good strikes.’
‘Guys we lost 2-0 away at a very good Newcastle side managed by Eddie Howe who’ll probably be the next England manager.
Our survival won’t come down to games like today.’
‘Newcastle will be pushing for the European spots. Today was one of the top 6 trickiest away games we’re likely to face.’
‘The additional pace of the game showed big time. Newcastle were swarming and pressured virtually every ball. They read our passes proactively and got to plenty. And our lack of finesse and surety on the first touch often gave them that extra chance to get up on the ball.’
‘No complaints about the result. Newcastle dominated the game and deserved to win. They have some skillful players and pace and power in their side and their press made it difficult for us. The only criticism of Newcastle was that they could have been better with the final ball, but that, together with some really good defending by us, kept the score down.’
‘Joelinton is an absolute brute btw. We had to double up on him at times and that gave Guimaraes time and space to pick passes out. We need a Joelinton type CM badly, especially if we’re gonna play with 2 centre mids.’
‘It was the toughest first game for Forest to have to deal with. Other than City or Liverpool away.
Newcastle are riding a wave of positivity since their new owners and Howe arrived.
Considering we have players still getting to know each other, a 2-0 loss is not bad at all.’
‘No Newcastle are not a top team, there are others better other than Abu Dhabi and Scouse. West Ham are a better team for one, Spurs certainly are.’
‘The Geordies are a very good side, we’re gonna be sound lads, everyone go enjoy their weekend.’
‘Newcastle looked really solid, if Almiron had a right foot he’d be top draw. Guimaraes was on another level to anyone on the pitch. Touch toothless up front but you could see them top 6ish with a top striker and a better right sided midfielder.’
‘Are the whingers and doom-mongers out? Can’t be bothered to trawl back.
Newcastle since New Year have been better than everyone apart from Manchester City and Liverpool. Their home form has been excellent.
Did anyone really expect a win? So we had 6 debutants? Not really a surprise that we struggled with patterns of play. It’ll be like that for a few weeks.’
‘Newcastle will be challenging for the top 6. I think they’ll be top 8 comfortably.
The way Howe has them set up, with the momentum behind them, I can’t see them finishing anything other than top half.
We might be full of momentum and passion ourselves, but being realistic, we’re not up to that standard just yet.’
‘I don’t think Newcastle are quite there yet but they are well and truly on their way, and I reckon they’re just behind the top 4-5 clubs. Howe is a top manager, really technical and that team was well drilled and on it today. So I don’t think we should beat ourselves up too much.
Our aim has be not to go toe-to-toe with the likes of Newcastle, Man City etc we have to ignore the top 6 and take our beatings should (when) they come – our focus has to be on on beating the likes of Leeds, Southampton, Everton, Villa, B’mouth and Fulham. We’ve had a real baptism today and it wasn’t pretty.’
‘Newcastle are not only a very good side on paper, they are also well drilled and managed and have a very clear game plan. We couldn’t live with them today and in some ways its one not to read too much into.’
‘Newcastle are a great side at home and we did really well to hold them back for so long. The back three were immense and Colback and O’Brien had very good games.’
