Jack Harrison asked Sunday morning if staying at Leeds – Newcastle United target refuses to commit
Jack Harrison has been heavily linked with Newcastle United.
Leeds United seeing a lot of transfer business in and out this summer, with big names Raphina and Phillips leaving, whilst many are tipping Jack Harrison to follow them.
Leeds have shown a willingness to sell star players if they want to leave, if the buying club are prepared to meet their valuation.
Manager Jesse Marsch wheeling and dealing in the transfer market, as well as bringing big money in on sales, Leeds have spent over £90m already on six additions to their squad.
So will Jack Harrison be the next one to leave Elland Road and the transfer fee used to bring in an alternative signing(s).
Leeds are currently down in Australia and have just played and lost 1-0 to Aston Villa in a pre-season clash this Sunday morning (UK time), both teams making multiple substitutions, Jack Harrison playing the first 62 minutes.
After the final whistle, Jack Harrison was asked whether he would be still be at Leeds for the upcoming 2022/23 Premier League season and he replied with a not very convincing “We’ll see, we’ll see what happens.”
Leeds fans understandably not impressed with the reply, having already seen the likes of Raphina and Phillips leave.
Jesse Marsch was also asked after the defeat to Villa about whether Jack Harrison will be staying at Leeds and he replied:
“There’s always been interest in Jack, like many of our players, but I know that Jack is also very happy here and that he’s done a really good job, that he’s a big part of what we’re doing.
“Of course there’s always possibilities that big transfer offers come in and clubs then have to decide how it fits and what are the best options moving forward…but for me, Jack Harrison is a big part of our plans moving forward and we’re counting on him this season, for sure.”
Hmmm, not really all that convincing from the Leeds manager either. Sounding a lot like he wants Jack Harrison to stay BUT is worried that another club are going to put the money on the table and the player wanting to leave.
If Newcastle United do make a formal approach, Leeds Live report that their information is that Leeds United would be asking £35m+ for Jack Harrison. That would represent more than treble the £11m they paid Man City last summer, for a player Leeds had already had on loan for a number of seasons.
Starting 66 Premier League matches these past two seasons, the 25 year old has had 25 direct goal involvements, scoring 16 and getting nine assists. Jack Harrison scored the winner at St James’ Park for Leeds in January 2021 and got an assist in the 5-2 victory over NUFC at Elland Road that same season.
My feeling is that with 20 days to go, Newcastle will make at least one more major signing before the new season kicks off, whether that is Jack Harrison or not, we will soon see.
