The 20 year old striker moving on from FC Reims after only 15 Ligue 1 career starts.

Hugo Ekitike listing the reasons why he joined PSG (and not Newcastle United…).

The French striker moves to PSG on a loan deal with an obligation to buy, a fee of €28.5 million (approx £24.2m) in addition to the €6.5 million (approx £5.5m) future add-ons. So in total, around the £30m mark.

Hugo Ekitike speaking to PSG TV about his choice of new club:

Interviewer:

“Hugo, welcome! How do you feel to become a Paris Saint-Germain player?”

Hugo Ekitike:

“It’s a mixture of lots of feelings, lots of emotions. I obviously feel a lot of joy and pride in joining Paris Saint-Germain. It is an immense pride to be here.”

Interviewer:

“What motivated your choice to join the capital club?”

Hugo Ekitike:

“It’s the choice of the heart!

“I’m French too, it’s the club of my country, of my country.

“And then it’s a club where the greatest players evolve, where there is a quality and experienced staff, the desire to win all the titles in all competitions. There is everything here for me to progress. All the ingredients are there, so it’s a logical choice for me to be here.

“Finally, I myself have family in the Paris region, and I have always followed Paris Saint-Germain. All this made my desire to join this club very natural. It’s the right choice for me to be here!”

Interviewer:

“You’ve just celebrated your 20th birthday, so you’re going to be one of the youngest players in the squad! It’s a challenge for you, but also a form of pressure, isn’t it?”

Hugo Ekitike:

“I have always had confidence in my game and in myself.

“Even if I especially look forward to being on the field to play, and show what I can do. I don’t really doubt because I know what I’m capable of, and I can’t wait to be able to work to show it in Paris.”

Interviewer:

“Precisely, what do you like the most in football?”

Hugo Ekitike:

“I am a player who really likes beautiful gestures.

“So my goal is to give pleasure to the people who come to watch the matches. It’s my way of seeing things. I like the aesthetics in football, and I think that in Paris I am in the best place to play like that.

“And then there is also the statistical side which is very important in football today, and the desire to make the collective shine.”

Interviewer:

“Paris is also about passionate supporters and a special environment. We imagine that it is exciting for a player?”

Hugo Ekitike:

“That’s also why I’m here.

“I love this passion among Parisian supporters, it’s something that drives me.

“I like the pressure of matches, when there is tension, when there is expectation around me. And it pushes me to bring out the best in myself. I want to show the supporters that I will give everything. I want to bring my touch, my character and my way of appropriating football, but also to have my impact in the game and show how I play.”
