Those hoping quality players won’t join Newcastle United this summer to be left disappointed
As I type this, it’s just past lunchtime on the 10th June and the summer transfer window officially opened at midnight.
The whole region seems to be waiting with bated breath, as to who the ‘World’s Wealthiest Football Club’ Newcastle United will be hoping to bring to St James Park.
I think most fans of a black and white persuasion have been as pragmatic as could be expected in the circumstances.
However, as can be expected, the levels of excitement are way above anything experienced since the Kevin Keegan era.
The Newcastle United takeover that reverberated around English football, is still fresh in the mind.
With this transfer window being looked at as a sign of intent and ambition with regards to the NUFC owners, by some club outsiders.
There are folk who would like to hope that quality players won’t join Newcastle United but they will be left disappointed.
So as I said, the whole region are looking on, one half brimming with enthusiasm and the other half with extreme trepidation.
This summer will expose the massive gulf between our regional football clubs and as black and whites we should be prepared for more vitriolic bile on an unprecedented scale.
Not that we’ll be losing much sleep because since last October it has been nothing but sweet dreams.
