Allan Saint-Maximin posts emotional personal message after fan initiative helps spark best performance in months

Allan Saint-Maximin has got his mojo back.

The enigmatic Frenchman back to something like his best in a great team display by everybody involved, as Newcastle United made it six home wins in a row.

The 1-0 win over Crystal Palace a third Premier League in a row, taking NUFC to 40 points and surely now guaranteeing safety.

For Allan Saint-Maximin the uplift started before the match even kicked off.

As usual, the Wor Flags pre-match display theme was kept secret.

This time, a giant number 10 showing up in gold as fans in the Gallowgate held their individual gold flags aloft, along with a bigger flag showing Allan Saint Maximin himself.

Allan Saint-Maximin via Twitter after Newcastle United 1 Crystal Palace 0 (20 April 2022):

“I will never be able to thank you enough for this.

“I will remember this day for the rest of my life !

“Thanks for everything!”

Who knows how Allan Saint-Maximin would have performed without this pre-match mass show of support…one thing for sure though, it undoubtedly did no harm.

ASM missed almost two months of first team football and Eddie Howe stated that the player hadn’t been able to train for much of that time, whilst ill / injured. The Frenchman had only had three starts back in the first team before Wednesday night and a very vocal minority, mainly on social media, had gone way over the top in their criticism.

After last night’s win, Allan Saint-Maximin also spoke briefly on the pitch to the official NUFC site / media:

“Wow.

“What a game.

“Six wins at home (in a row).

“That’s for you (the fans).

“Thank you very much for that (the pre-match show of support and during the game) and I am really happy tonight for the win.

“Thank you, you are incredible fans and thanks for the support.

“Take care.”
