Newcastle 2 Brighton 1 – Saturday 5 March 3pm

A huge win for Newcastle United that lifts the team seven points clear of the bottom three.

Each match we ask a number of our regular / irregular writers to give their verdict…

GToon:

“Brilliant win today against a team we always struggle against.

“Credit to Eddie for sticking with a winning team and turning a team who shipped goals into a team who know how to defend.

“The job done without spending a fortune is incredible.”

Jamie Smith:

“A bit functional but another massive win.

“Second half was just pure nerves as Brighton threatened to cancel a two goal lead but a combination of dogged defending and game management saw United home.

A comfortable gap to the bottom now and I really feel we can look ahead with confidence.

“Eddie Howe has done wonders with this squad and the mood on Tyneside is soaring.

“Krafth and Targett excellent, on to Southampton (who got a welcome hiding today) with nowt to fear!”

Billy Miller:

“Just an all round great day for the Toon.

“We won again, Burnley got smashed, Leeds lost.

“If I’d been picky I would have preferred Brentford and Norwich to share the points.

“But we continue our own outstanding run and now sit 7 points clear of relegation.

“We don’t have regular joy down at Southampton but if I ever fancied our chances against them it’s now.

“They endured a pasting today to end their own recent fine form.”

Paul Patterson:

“A welcome three points but we made hard work of it.

“Up the Premier League we go…”

David Punton:

“That was a nerve shredding second half, but we got there!

“Make it 8 games unbeaten.

“A massive win given the games ahead.

“It was a blistering 2 goals in 2 minutes that did for Brighton.

“Renaissance man Ryan Fraser with the opener and then Schar with a nice headed finish.

“Another hoodoo gone too – our first win over the Seagulls in the Premier League.

“What a turnaround this is.”

Nat Seaton:

“Came to the game today full of hope…

“That usually means one thing when you support Newcastle United!

“Thankfully though we got all 3 points:)

“We’re not used to defending leads and they managed it…just!

“Having this centre half pairing is making such a difference.

“Everyone giving their all yet again, resulting in another home win and us all going home very happy.”
