Newcastle 3 Everton 1 – NUFC fan / writer reaction to this massive victory

Newcastle 3 Everton 1 – Tuesday 8 February 7.45pm

An absolutely massive win and how good was it to be able to enjoy the closing stages with a two goal advantage.

Each match we ask a number of our regular / irregular writers to give their verdict…

Jamie Smith:

“The must win has finally been won and suddenly that table looks a lot less ominous.

“Scrappy game for the most part as Everton seemed to just come for a bit fall over and you feared the worst when they scored, but a terrific, gutsy effort to take the win.

“Willock was nowhere first half but the way he grew into the game made a big difference.

“Good performances from Lascelles, who most would have had dropped (including me) and debutant Targett but man of the match was clearly the bundle of utter class we have at right back. Trippier magnificent throughout, crowning it with that sweet free kick and we now have real hope.

“Bring on Villa.”

Billy Miller:

“When the actual Mackems are two divisions below us, a dismantling of the Merseyside Mackems and our favourite hothead goalkeeper is a worthy substitute.

“Our first comeback win of the season.

“Our first win by more than one goal.

“Our first back-to-back wins.

“Whisper it quietly but we’re unbeaten in the Premier League in 2022.

“Roll on Sunday.”

Ben Cooper:

“An absolutely vital win at SJP for NUFC against a woeful Everton who know now they are in the relegation mix.

“It was an entertaining game lacking quality, only Kieram Trippier’s free kick really was worth watching.

“Unless of course you count players falling over the ball or mis-kicking it out for corners.

“Which I do when Everton do it, not sure I was laughing when JL did it when he should have scored.

“Magic three points though. Trippier was brilliant, Targett good and most of the players did well after a dull first half hour.

“We might just pull this staying up lark off now.”

“Massive result!

“Get the bleep in!

“That’s exactly what we needed, not just to win but to win well.”

David Punton:

“Our best performance of the season.

“What a tonic that was.

“Back to back wins for Newcastle. Potentially a huge moment.

“The win, only our second at home this season, lifts us out of the bottom three. Who’d a thunk it.

“Can we now please try and pull and clear of this mess down the bottom.

“Everyone has put a great shift in.

“Up against a renewed Everton on their so-called new manager bounce.

“The icing on the cake that free kick from Kieran Trippier. Delicious execution for his first goal at Newcastle.

“Amazing what a bit of investment can do.

“The game didn’t start well with that Lascelles own goal handing them the early advantage but United weren’t to be denied this evening.

“Great to see Fraser on the score sheet too, he’s another player transformed under Howe.

“A win gained without the Bruno G making a start and we all know there is plenty to come from him.

“Things could well be starting to turn. Quite simply a massive victory.

“A huge well done to manager and players. Now go again!”

Nat Seaton:

“What a feeling!!!

“A massive well deserved THREE points.

“It’s always great to beat Everton but this was extra special tonight.

“Trippier man of the match yet again, what a signing.

“Bring on Aston Villa another team I love to beat…”

Paul Patterson:

“Top effort from the lads.

“Simple as that.

“No complaints.

“Drinks aplenty.”

Jack Lacey-Hatton:

“I still think we may go down, I was certain after not beating Norwich at home, but tonight was a night that offered genuine hope.

“ASM clearly brilliant but Kieren Trippier makes such a difference to this team.

“Everything he does, touch, decision-making, organisation is first class.

“If we can avoid major injuries and maybe get Wilson back at a reasonable time, you never know.

“It’s on!”

Brian Standen:

“Carlsberg night!

“Great across the park, including Lascelles, who was immense.

“Perfect match management from Eddie!

“Kieran Trippier quite simply different level!”
