Brentford fans ‘looking forward’ to playing Newcastle United – Very mixed comments

Brentford fans experienced Premier League football for the first time in August 2021 and found it to their liking.

The opening seven games of the season seeing only one defeat, as their team picked up 12 points.

Little did the Brentford fans know after seeing their team win 2-1 at West Ham on 3 October 2021, that it would be taking another 19 matches and almost five months, to see another 12 Premier League points added.

Indeed, the last seven matches have brought the Bees only one point, courtesy of a 0-0 draw at home to Crystal Palace.

Very different recent form for Newcastle United of course, 12 points from the last six PL matches.

As you can see from the comments below, Brentford fans under no illusions as to how important Saturday’s game may prove to be.

A home win and potentially as many as nine points clear of the relegation zone, depending on other results. Whilst an away win would see Newcastle go above Brentford and with two games in hand.

Indeed, whilst it is unlikely and would need any number of results to go against them, Brentford fans could even see their team in the bottom three by Saturday night.

Thomas Frank’s team have been having problems at both ends of the pitch, as these past seven PL matches have seen only four goals for Brentford and a massive 16 for the opposition.

A very mixed reaction from Brentford fans in the comments as they ‘look forward’ to facing Newcastle United.

Brentford fans commenting via their Griffin Park Grapevine message board:

‘The winter transfers make a mockery of a competition that’s already twisted but Newcastle have spent £90 million and the results are coming in.’

‘A must not lose game IMHO.’

‘Must win game.’

‘We need a win badly.

I don’t really see it with our recent performances.’

‘Be positive and believe we can win this from the start.

Player for player I believe we have more then enough quality but the game wont go your way with a click of the fingers, you have to make it happen. A few times this season Thomas frank has spoken about being brave. If the players are we have a good chance of 3 points.’

‘This would be a terrible game to lose, I fear losing this could knock the last bits of confidence from the boys, we need a cup final atmosphere.

The bottom teams are beginning to pick up points as well.’

‘Really need to stop the rot…

I’ve got a feeling a performance is due….3-1….and Nookie Broon supporters find themselves where we find ourselves today…. pondering.’

‘It’s a must not lose game so we need not to lose…I’d actually take a point at the moment…huge game.’

‘They look a lot better than us at the moment I’m afraid, 0-1.’

‘It’s a big game, if we go with how we’ve played recently I fear we’ll lose it, but change things around, go back to having no fear, attack them starting from the wing backs then it’s a game we can win.’

‘It’s been a bit too easy for some to base their confidence on the first eight or so games of the season ignoring our form since. Obviously we have to play all the sides below us but if we lose to Newcastle there will be those who will say it’s down to the next three games and this way of thinking will eventually end up with us needing to beat Everton and Leeds.’

‘Newcastle played surprisingly well at West Ham despite missing Trippier and Saint-Maximin and were unrecognisable from the shambles that they were earlier in the season. WIllock and Joelinton especially looked like different players. We’ll need to up our intensity in midfield without a doubt, and for me a switch to four at the back is the best way of achieving that. Do we really need three central defenders to cope with Chris Wood, possibly their weakest player yesterday?’

‘As long as we take the game to the Saudis I’ll be happy. Watching us play defence v attack is getting dull (although some would argue a tactical necessity v top 6 clubs).’

‘Step up and show proper fight, ambition and desire, fearlessness…newcastle are there for the taking, make it happen!’

‘2-1 Bees sting the Saudis.’

‘Im struggling to picture us winning another game this season to be honest.

My sheets are dry, honestly. Just being realistic.

If Crystal Palace had any cutting edge they would have won last weekend. They were sharper, passed the ball better and looked physically stronger.

I would never knock individuals, but it isn’t happening at the moment.’

‘Newcastle are improved but they are not good. Worst opposition we’ve had for a while.’

‘Howe’s got them playing in a very fluid 4-3-3 with Willock impressing at WHU in the Gallagher role so would anticipate a strong front foot display from them.’

‘Newcastle played well this Weekend and without Saint Maximin .Im sorry but they looked a lot better than we did on Saturday.’

‘Newcastle have a nice buffer over the bottom three, but remember it’s as much a must-not-lose for them as it is for us.’

‘Mike Dean is the ref, Geordie fans on social media don’t seem too happy with that.’

‘2-0 for me. Toon fans feel they’re nailed on for 3 points due our run form. Personally I think it’s improving slowly given we’ve got a full squad back now.’

‘As much as I would love us to win, I really can’t see it happening. They are much better than when we played them earlier and sadly we are in decline.’
