BBC Sport comments from neutrals after beating Brentford – Significant shift on Newcastle United

Intriguing to read through these BBC Sport comments following Newcastle’s victory away at Brentford.

The comments from neutrals especially telling…

A little different to what Newcastle United fans have come to expect from the BBC Sport ‘neutrals’!

The BBC Sport comments from neutrals are usually just overwhelmingly a catalogue of abuse aimed at NUFC supporters. As well as regular claims of how Mike Ashley and Steve Bruce actually hadn’t been all that bad at Newcastle United…

Quite amazing how repeatedly so many fans of so many other clubs are interested in Newcastle United AND are bothered enough to go to the effort of leaving such lovely endearing messages.

On this occasion though, except for the odd one, it isn’t comment after comment saying how great it will be if ourselves (Newcastle fans) and the club are relegated, with the new ownership mentioned time after time.

Instead, there are a fair few compliments for Newcastle United and especially Eddie Howe!

The BBC Sport readers comments, mainly from neutrals, although the odd Brentford and Newcastle fan also contributing, tells you all you need to know about a distinct change of mood, even if it only proves temporary…

‘Does anyone still think it wasn’t Steve Bruce’s fault?’

‘Bruce does and maybe his wife.’

‘As an Albion fan this asserts he’s completely not the man to get us promoted.

Well played Newcastle.’

‘Newcastle have got to be applauded for a quite remarkable turnaround.’

‘Eddie Howe deserves the Manager of the Month award.

Newcastle are unbeaten in the league in 2022. We may have splashed some cash but the way our existing players have improved, especially Joelinton is phenomenal.’

‘Howe is a class act.’

‘Following all the negative comments made when he was appointed I am glad the results more than support Eddie Howe.’

‘I well remember Bruce’s contemptuous comment referring to Eddie Howe when he sneeringly mocked him as ‘the guy from Bournemouth’ Well the difference in the Newcastle players Bruce had at his disposal is now night & day. Bruce’s arrogance on full display. But then it’s typical of anyone connected with Man Utd & a sense of entitlement.

Turns out the guy from Bournemouth was not so bad after all.’

‘Good on yer Newcastle! What a difference Eddie Howe has made!’

‘Eddie Howe – manager of the season if we manage to finish mid table. Took over a club with unfit, deflated players and turned them into winners.’

‘And spent a fortune on mew players. How’s that make him a good manager?’

‘Most underrated English Manager is Eddie Howe.

Great result Toon, pleased for you.

A Saint.’

‘Newcastle seem unstoppable at the moment. What a transformation from two months ago. Credit to them for going from relegation candidates to mid table candidates.’

‘An awful shortage of geordie haters on here today, any particular reason?’

‘Looks like any three out of the bottom 6 for relegation. Newcastle appear to have pulled it together and I believe are going to survive.

I’d like Norwich to survive but I can’t see it, unfortunately.’

‘Good luck to Geordies. About time you had some good fortune.

Millwall fan.’

‘Think biggest signing you made was getting Eddie Howe in as manager, he has improved players who were less than bag average inside a couple of months in charge.

His marque signing Trippier has been injured still no panic from him.

You are going to survive I would suggest comfortably.’

‘Absolutely delighted for Eriksen. I hope he can keep the Bees up for another season.’

‘As well as moving off the bottom, Chelsea relegate Newcastle to second position as the most hated club in England.’

‘Looks like the Saudis are staying up.’

‘Football loses when clubs like this win.’

‘Get a life mate.

Well deserved win and no one deserves it better than the Geordies.’
