The results of the Newcastle v Cambridge player ratings by fans.

Always interested to see what supporters have collectively made of the latest performance, when using our interactive ratings system. Each player marked out of 10 and the averages below.

So, what about the individuals who played in this dismal 1-0 home defeat to third tier opposition?

Clear man of the match was Kieran Trippier (6.1), who only 24 hours after being announced as Newcastle’s first January signing, put in a pretty decent performance. Did all the simple things well and at times you couldn’t help thinking he was looking around, thinking just how bad are some of these players, certainly judged on Saturday’s display.

Only two other players rated 4.0 or higher by the Newcastle fans.

Jacob Murphy (4.7) playing out of position in an attacking role, ended up getting into positions where he had the most of Newcastle’s best first half chances. Feeble efforts for the first couple when in good positions but pushed Mitov into the save of the match when tipping over Murphy’s powerful 12 yard shot just before the break.

Joelinton (4.4) put in what I thought was a solid performance. Not really able to influence the game that much though, until Newcastle’s very final chance, the Brazilian unlucky to see Mitov produce his second best save of the day in injury time, tipping over Joelinton’s header.

A lot of poor performances but two especially stood out for the home supporters.

Sean Longstaff (2.0) had a shocker and contributed nothing on the day.

Whilst Martin Dubravka (3.0) had hardly a save to make but messed up on the crucial goal, sadly he is looking nothing like the keeper who did so well, for so long. Maybe these bad injuries that have ruled him out of the start of this season and last, have had such an impact that we may well not see him bounce back to the form we know he is capable of, or maybe that should be what he was capable of?

A special mention of the subs.

Fair to say a lot of fans would probably have put this pair in their starting eleven but Willock (1.8) was absolutely woeful when he came on, whilst Almiron (2.8) wasn’t far behind him.

Below are the ratings as voted by Newcastle fans up to 9.30am Monday:
