Donny van de Beek could be set to join Newcastle United.

Chris Wood was confirmed as the second NUFC signing of this January transfer window at 9am on Thursday morning, joining Kieran Trippier at St James Park.

Then only a couple of hours later, the Manchester Evening News reporting that Donny van de Beek could shortly follow that duo into Newcastle United.

They say that their information is that agents have approached Newcastle United and offered the former Ajax midfielder to NUFC.

The newspaper saying that talks have been held, which could see Donny van de Been go out on loan for the rest of this season.

However, the report saying that Newcastle United could face competition, as his agents have also made an approach to Borussia Dortmund, seeing if they would be interested in a potential loan deal.

Signing for £35m in summer 2020, the past year and a half has been a nightmare for Donny van de Beek, going from being one of the star players at Ajax, to almost completely ignored at Man Utd.

The midfielder has only started four Premier League games in total since his move and this season not a single league start, despite Man Utd looking so poor much of the time.

Donny van de Beek only playing 66 Premier League minutes this season as a sub. He got five minutes in the 4-1 Man Utd win over Newcastle United at Old Trafford in September, whilst he was an unused sub when Rangnick’s team were so lucky to escape with a 1-1 draw just over two weeks ago at St James Park.

A handful of appearances in domestic and European cups hasn’t helped a great deal and Van de Beek’s lack of club football has cost him his place in three successive Holland squads.

With only ten months until the World Cup kicks off in November he needs regular football to stand any chance of going to Qatar.

Any move would of course need the assent of Manchester United, but with Rangnick showing as much interest as Solskjaer in playing Donny van de Beek in Premier League matches, you would imagine the midfielder himself will be doing everything he can to get football elsewhere, at least in the short-term.
