Cambridge fans comments after trip to Newcastle United and a 1-0 win…
Cambridge fans travelled to Tyneside to enjoy themselves.
Though exactly what levels that enjoyment would reach, not many of them would have predicted.
A sold out St James Park (with the exception of 90 unsold tickets by the away club and a slightly reduced capacity due to different segregation to normal because the FA Cup allows more visiting fans than for Premier League matches) saw a famous win for the visitors.
The 4,830 Cambridge fans amongst the 51,395 crowd, having the time of their lives.
They had travelled with the full intent of having a great time in our magnificent city, only to put the cherry on the very top of the icing with their players delivering a win on the pitch.
Cambridge fans understandably ecstatic in their comments below with regard to reacting to their team. However, there were also many of them wanting to make clear just how impressed they had been with how they were treated by the locals, both before AND after their shock win.
I might be biased but I don’t think any visiting team and fans pulling off such a shock away win at a Premier League club, will have been met with such a gracious response as Cambridge have experienced from Newcastle supporters.
Obviously a very strange time at our club as Newcastle United fans are so hopeful of better times ahead BUT at the same time, the overwhelming majority also so understanding of just what a mess has been left behind by Mike Ashley and Steve Bruce. This defeat a big surprise but maybe not quite so big for NUFC supporters, as it is for neutrals and Cambridge fans.
