Matty Longstaff has returned to Newcastle United.

Aberdeen boss Stephen Glass revealing that the loan deal has been brought to a premature conclusion.

Heading over the border for regular football, instead Matty Longstaff has hardly featured.

Only 283 minutes of league football for Aberdeen and just the three starts, the most recent of those way back on 3 October 2021 when Aberdeen lost 2-1 at home to Celtic.

Only two sub appearances have followed in Scottish Premier matches.

The former NUFC winger (Stephen Glass) declaring: ‘Matty has gone back to Newcastle. They probably want to get him involved. There is a new manager there who will want to take a look at him.’

Good luck to Matty Longstaff but if he couldn’t get any kind of regular football in the far lower level of Scottish football, it would be incredible if Eddie Howe sees the 21 year as having any part to play in the survival task ahead.

Stephen Glass commenting on Matty Longstaff:

“He [Matty Longstaff] has gone back after the [winter] break [in Scottish football] was moved forward.

“They [Newcastle United] pulled him back.

“He’d been injured in the last two or three weeks to be fair.

“Matty has gone back to Newcastle.

“They probably want to get him involved.

“There is a new manager there who will want to take a look at him.

“We wish him all the best.

“He has been brilliant around the place and I think he has enjoyed his time here.”
