A Newcastle United training update has been issued on Wednesday.

The NUFC squad preparing for the visit of Man Utd on Monday night, an 8pm kick-off at St James Park.

In the Newcastle United training update, there was good news on two players.

Javier Manquillo wasn’t considered for the game against Man City due to illness. Great to see him back in training and set to be up for selection against Man Utd.

Meanwhile, the club update states that Paul Dummett has ‘started to step up his recovery from injury’, having not played a single Premier League minute this season. The photo gallery from training today, showing Dummett joining in with the main group, after recently having been training outside but on his own with one of the physios.

With Jamal Lewis now set to be longer-term injured, it would be a massive boost if the Geordie left-back can be available for selection in the near future.

As things stand, there are three Newcastle players definitely ruled out for the Man Utd match, as well as Lewis, Newcastle have Federico Fernandez also injured for the foreseeable, whilst Isaac Hayden is suspended for one game after picking up a fifth booking of this PL season on Sunday against Man City.

Jonjo Shelvey missed Sunday’s match through a knock / injury and after the match Eddie Howe said: ‘Jonjo Shelvey was more precautionary we hope. I don’t think there’s any long-term damage with him. He should be available pretty soon.’

Shelvey couldn’t be seen in the training photos from today’s session, so hopefully he was just missed out, or will be joining in training again later this week.

Newcastle United training update – 22 December 2021:

‘Ralf Rangnick’s Red Devils are at St. James’ Park on Monday night for a sold-out clash under the lights (kick-off 8pm GMT).

And Newcastle United know that three points are a must if they are to climb out of the relegation places as they head into 2022.

Eddie Howe’s men have been on the wrong end of some controversial refereeing decisions in recent weeks, and will be without Isaac Hayden for Monday’s game after the midfielder picked up his fifth booking of the season against Manchester City at the weekend.

But Javier Manquillo was back in training after he missed Sunday’s match through illness, while Paul Dummett has also started to step up his recovery from injury.’
