Eddie Howe has been speaking to the media on Friday morning.

The Newcastle United Head Coach talking to journalists ahead of Sunday’s match at Leicester City.

Eddie Howe understandably buoyed by that first win of Newcastle United’s season and his first as Head Coach.

Howe now looking to follow up that win against Burnley with a positive result against the Foxes.

Leicester played last night in Naples and failed to qualify from their Europa League match. As well as likely tiredness for a number of players, Brendan Rodgers also had to leave seven players behind in England due to illness and / or positive covid tests.

Very different for the NUFC Head Coach, having eight days between games.

As for injury / fitness at Newcastle United, Eddie Howe giving an update on the availability of players.

Howe saying that only some ‘knocks and niggles’ felt after Burnley, with everybody involved in that matchday squad expected to be fine for Leicester. Eddie Howe saying this includes Fabian Schar, who has missed some training this week with a rib problem.

Meanwhile, Ryan Fraser is also available after a hamstring worry kept him out of that squad against Burnley.

Ciaran Clark is also now available after serving his one match suspension for the red card against Norwich.

This leaves long-term casualty Paul Dummett as hopefully the only one of the 26 man first team squad unavailable.

Eddie Howe talking to the media about the injury / fitness situation ahead of Sunday’s match against Leicester – 10 December 2021:

“A couple of knocks and niggles but nothing too serious.

Fabian Schar had a rib problem earlier in the week but hopefully he’ll be OK.

“Ryan Fraser had a very slight hamstring problem but I expect him to be in contention.”

Eddie Howe on Paul Dummett:

“He will be an important player.

“His situation is that he’s back out running with the physio which is a great sign.

“He’s had a couple of setbacks but he’s through that now.

“I still feel he has a little way to go before he’s available for selection.”

Eddie Howe on Burnley win:

“Everyone was well aware we needed the win, and now we have it.

“Now we have to try and build on it and we’ve got to try and create some positive momentum.

“The supporters are going to be key to that, home and away. It can really make the difference.”

Eddie Howe on the importance of last Saturday:

“You need to win games to justify everything.

“Your way of playing, what you do, how you train.

“Talking about positives is one thing but having the evidence to back it up is another.

“We follow statistics and the metrics behind performances very closely and it’s a big part of what we do.

“We’ve been pleased with lots of aspects of our performances but winning is ultimately what we’re here to do so we were delighted to do that.”

Eddie Howe on Miguel Almiron:

“When you give someone an opportunity you want them to take it and I thought Miggy did that.

“His energy is very infectious and I thought his work rate from a defensive perspective was very good.

“Also he had really good moments going forward.”

Eddie Howe on the festive fixture list:

“I don’t view it as a run, I just view it as the next game.

“Grouping games together can be dangerous either way.

“You don’t play games in groups, you do it one at a time and I think we have to look at Leicester in isolation.”
