Alan Shearer proposed for top job at Newcastle United
One of the many negatives that came with the Mike Ashley ownership of Newcastle United, was his treatment of NUFC’s greatest living legends, Kevin Keegan and Alan Shearer.
Ashley undermining both of these Newcastle United greats, a quite shameful state of affairs, with the Alan Shearer statue not even allowed on club property.
However, since the new owners have come in, when speaking about the takeover, both of the NUFC legends have said that they would be happy to help if they could, to help ensure the club is now able to progress.
Well, Alan Shearer has now been proposed as the perfect choice for the top job at Newcastle United, where he would be able to exert maximum positive influence.
Rob Lee says that he thinks Shearer is ideal to be adviser to those running the club now, with the former number nine to be top of the tree according to his former teammate, even above any Director of Football that may be employed.
Lee acknowledges of course that he is best mates with his choice for the top job at NUFC but insists Alan Shearer would be perfect: ‘They can trust him to give them the right call. They might not agree with him all the time but I just think you need somebody who knows the area, the people and the club and is not going to be corrupted.’
Alan Shearer is somebody that the fanbase would implicitly trust.
Interesting to see if the new Newcastle United owners take up Rob Lee’s advice and whether Alan Shearer would be up for taking on such a full on role at the club he loves.
Rob Lee talking to City FM:
“I would get someone who knows Newcastle and the club and sits as an adviser to everybody, to the board – even above a director of football.
“Because if we get the top job wrong, every other job is wrong.
“I think it’s imperative to get it right behind the scenes before we get it right on the pitch because it starts at the very top.
“I’m a great friend of Alan [Shearer] but he would be my choice. You know he’s not going to be influenced by anybody.
“He’ll make decisions because he loves Newcastle.
“He’ll give his honest opinion.
“He’s not scared of anyone, he won’t be bullied by agents.
“They can trust him to give them the right call.
“They might not agree with him all the time but I just think you need somebody who knows the area, the people and the club and is not going to be corrupted.”
