Alan Shearer celebrates at St James Park “A winnnnnn and a clean sheet, is it Xmas!!!?”

Alan Shearer was there to see it.

The United legend celebrating with over 50,000 other Newcastle fans as the first win of the season was marked up.

Having a shift off Match of The Day, Alan Shearer and his son at the game with Rob Lee and one of his lads.

What they watched was a high energy start but poor game for 30 minutes.

Then ASM started to find a bit more space and getting on the ball, Newcastle starting to play some football against a horrendous to watch Burnley.

On 40 minutes it happened, Pope coming to catch a cross but landing on Schar and spilling the ball. Newcastle United’s number nine pouncing, keeping his cool and taking the ball to the right of those on the deck, then finding space to lace his shot into the roof of the net, above the head of the covering defender.

Newcastle United’s greatest number nine reacting on Twitter…

“Great finish Callum Wilson.”

Alan Shearer and the other 50,000 willing Newcastle United to win, then saw a really good performance from the home side for the remaining 50 or so minutes. A mixture of good goalkeeping, blocks, last ditch defending, some poor decision making, keeping it down to only the one goal.

Burnley were just hoofing it repeatedly forward and whilst Newcastle restricted them to only one shot on target, you just fear the worst…

However, all the back four played well, as indeed did pretty much the whole team, effort and commitment certainly on show as well.

When you are into December with not a single win, you can be allowed to celebrate appropriately when that run is broken.

Alan Shearer declaring:

“A winnnnnn and a clean sheet, is it Xmas!!!?”

Well, it is very nearly Christmas…

A great atmosphere and Eddie Howe getting his rightful reward after a very difficult month in charge, where everything from covid to a red card has been sent to obstruct his route to potential safety at NUFC this season.
